What made you decide to become a nurse?
I have always wanted to be a nurse, since forever. My Grandad used to dialyse when I was younger and so from the age of around 7 or 8 I could run his dialysis machine. So I always wanted to look after people.
What’s it been like being a student nurse?
You get sent all over the place: GP, community hospitals, anywhere in Somerset. I’m in ITU now, which was a bit overwhelming at first because the people here are really poorly. I used to go to sleep hearing the beeps and the noises but I’ve got used to it now. I’ve just started to get to know it and got a feel for it but you only get to stay in each place for eight weeks so I’m about to move on soon! I’ve really enjoyed it though.
When do you become fully qualified?
I finish in July 2019 and I graduate September 2019. It’s been a journey but I’ve enjoyed every part of it. I like the patient side of things because I think I’m more of a practical learner, writing essays isn’t my forte so I like to get stuck in.
Where will you end up?
I think I will stay in Musgrove, I’ve applied for a job on one of the Mendip wards where I do a lot of bank work. The team here is really lovely.
