Could you tell us a bit about the current model and your thoughts on the future of general practice?
The wonderful thing about general practice is the current model of a partnership of general practitioners who deliver the care. It means you can respond to the demands of your community, in a much better way than just providing a more generic service that one size fits all, which would never work.
It also allows you to feel very much part of the team and very valued.
The future of general practice will change for us. But with the partnership model we’re able to adjust to the ups and downs, we can’t prevent change but we can direct it in the way that we want to. There is perhaps a little more control in the current model and I hope that continues.
What’s it like to be part of the Wells City Practice team?
It’s a really great team. We work really hard and everyone here is really focused on doing the best for our patients. Outside of that we also have a lovely time together socially and our practice manager goes above and beyond to make it wonderful for us all. Especially with her Christmas and Easter surprises. I think everyone feels really valued, at least I hope that’s the case.
How would you describe the surrounding community?
This is a really difficult question to answer because everyone is completely different to each other. And that’s actually the lovely thing about general practice, you need to pair back a lot of your own preconceptions and deal with the person who has the problem on that day.
We see a really good range of people from newborn checks and pediatrics to care of the elderly and supporting people in nursing homes. We have a really good mix and a really, really nice range of lots of different types of people.
I really enjoy working here because the patients are lovely and I really enjoy the diversity.
