Pools to keep you cool in Somerset

Who knew Somerset had so many open air swimming pools? And we’ve picked the ones closest to our local surgeries that just so happen to have vacancies, so if you’re thinking of locating then this should swing it for you.

First up is Greenbank Heated Pool in Street. This pool has been a childhood favourite for lots of people in Somerset since 1937, it’s not changed much but it has been updated and is the perfect place to paddle when the temperature hits a mighty 34 degrees here in Somerset next week.

You could basically dive in from the roof of Vine Surgery Partnership who are currently looking for a Multi-Skilled Patient Assistant (closing date Friday 15 July but keep an eye on the website for more roles).

A stone’s throw away from Greenbank Pool is Glastonbury Health Centre who are looking for a salaried GP (closing date 31 August).

It seems as though this patch of Somerset is blessed with beautiful and historic Lidos and pools. Not far from Street and Glastonbury is Shepton Lido (also heated!), which after a refurbishment in 2017 is now open seven days a week. Both the Glastonbury and Street-based roles would be a perfect distance but Symphony Healthcare are looking for an Employed GP based at Bruton Surgery (closing date 31 August). In between Street and Shepton lies the beautiful Castle Cary where 100Fold CIC are looking for an Asthma Specialist Nurse (closing date 15 July).

In West Somerset we have the 27 metre Wivey Pool in Wiveliscombe, which offers lessons, lane swimming and family swimming, plus challenges like the ‘Wivey Channel Challenge’ on the 29 and 30 July. The local role for this one is another Symphony Healthcare GP/ANP role at Wiveliscombe Surgery (closing date 31 August).

Is there a better way to wind down after a hot day at work? Or to cool the kids off at the weekend?

If you’d prefer a wild swimming spot near these locations, we’ve got you covered in our blog next week, so stay tuned for that one.
